Local NAS / home server
This page is about connecting storage that lives on your own network — a NAS, a home server, a homelab box — rather than a cloud provider.
What works today
BYOS V1 connects MyArboris (hosted) to an S3-compatible API that's reachable from the Internet over HTTPS. If your NAS or home server already runs an S3-compatible service (for example MinIO) and you've deliberately made it reachable from the Internet — with a real TLS certificate via a reverse proxy, and its own access controls — you can connect it the same way as any other MinIO instance; see the MinIO / generic S3 guide.
What we don't recommend
Don't expose SMB or NFS file sharing directly to the Internet to work around this. Those protocols weren't designed for that and doing so is a significant, unnecessary risk to your whole home network.
Don't forward a raw storage port from your router straight to your NAS without TLS and its own authentication in front of it. An address that's merely "reachable" is not the same as one that's safely exposed.
Planned: MyArboris Local Connector
A future MyArboris Local Connector would run inside your own network and open an outbound connection to MyArboris, so LAN-only storage could be used without your NAS ever accepting inbound connections from the Internet. This is planned, not implemented — it does not exist in MyArboris today, and this page will be updated when it does.
