What MyArboris can do today

An overview of every feature MyArboris already has — and one planned feature, clearly marked as such.

Research

Build family trees the way research really happens: step by step, even with incomplete information.

Family trees and people
Several private family trees per account, started by hand or brought in from a GEDCOM file.
Relationships
Parents, partners, children and siblings — including several marriages, with civil and church weddings kept as separate events.
Life events
Birth, baptism, marriage, death, occupation, residence and more, with uncertain dates such as “about 1820”, “before 1895” or ranges — never inventing precision.
Names, life sections and notes
Additional names (for example birth or religious names), life sections and notes on people and events.
Root person and Kekulé numbers
Choose a root person; ancestors automatically get their Ahnentafel number.
Person page in the light theme: life events with evidence status, next to family, research and places
Person page: the life timeline with evidence status per event, next to family and suggested research steps.

Understand

See how everything connects — and where something is still missing.

Tree views
Hourglass, ancestors, descendants, pedigree and fan — with a side panel to view and edit people directly.
Overview
The size of the tree, generations, upcoming anniversaries and open research gaps at a glance.
Research and missing evidence
Concrete gaps: people without parents, missing birth or death dates, direct ancestors without evidence.

“Ancestors” tree view: four generations with Ahnentafel numbers.

Document

Make every fact traceable — not just a name with a date.

Sources, citations and evidence
The source (book, register, archival record), the exact citation within it and the evidence itself as a scan, photo or PDF.
Record evidence
Evidence in one step: upload a file, paste a link or enter it by hand; a new source can be created along the way.
Evidence status
Visible on every person page: which life events have a source, which have a document?
Photos and documents
Files on people, events and evidence; one file can be linked in several places without being copied.
List of sources with baptism, marriage and burial registers
A family tree's sources — with citations, people supported and evidence files for each.

Places and maps

Where did the family live — and when?

Unify places
Bring different spellings of a place together, with coordinates and map suggestions.
Historical jurisdictions
Time-dependent administrative structures for places, such as the crown land or district at a given time.
Map
Events by place, where the ancestors came from and how it changed over time, on a map.
Snapshot of a year
Who was probably still alive in a given year, and where?

Import and export

Your research is not tied to MyArboris.

GEDCOM import
GEDCOM 5.5.1 (including MyHeritage) with a preview before anything is saved; optionally a ZIP archive with the related photos and documents.
GEDCOM export
The current state at any time as a GEDCOM 5.5.1 file.
Reports
Person report, family report, pedigree, source report, people list and missing evidence as PDF or CSV.
Tree as an image
The current view as SVG, PNG or PDF.

Privacy and storage

A private workspace, not an open network.

Private family trees
Family trees are visible only to your account and are never published on the internet.
Share links
If you want, a read-only link that shows only names and living/deceased status — revocable at any time.
MyArboris storage
Photos and documents are stored privately in Cloudflare R2 and delivered only through short-lived, signed-in links.
Your own storage
Optionally your own S3-compatible storage (for example Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, AWS S3, MinIO) for new files.
Delete and take it with you
Delete single family trees or your whole account; export everything first.
Light, dark, two languages
Light and dark design or automatic by system; interface in German and English.
Family tree overview page in the dark theme with key figures and research gaps
A family tree's overview: its size, upcoming anniversaries and open research gaps.

Planned

From research to a family book

A family book created from the research in MyArboris, meant to contain:

  • People and their family relationships
  • Life stories
  • Photos and documents
  • Places and maps
  • Sources and citations

This feature does not exist yet. Everything you record and document properly today is already the foundation for it.
